Aishwarya Rai is an Indian film actress and model. She also known by her married name Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She was the first runner-up of the Miss India pageant and the winner of the Miss World pageant of 1994. She has established herself as one of the most popular and influential celebrities in India. She has received numerous awards and accolades, including two Filmfare Awards from eleven nominations. She was awarded with 'Padma Shri' by the Government of India in 2009.

Aishwarya Rai was born on 1 November 1973 in Mangalore, Karnataka, India to Krishnaraj Rai and Vrinda Rai. Her father was an Army biologist, who died on 18 March 2017 and her mother is a homemaker. She has an elder brother named Aditya Rai, who is an engineer in the merchant navy. She initially wanted a career in medicine but later decided to become an architect and got enrolled at Raheja College. Later, gave up her education to pursue a career in modelling.

Aishwarya Rai began her career with modelling and gained public recognition for her appearance in a Pepsi commercial with actor Aamir Khan. She made her acting debut with the Tamil film Iruvar in 1997, directed by Mani Ratnam. The film was a critical success and among other awards, won the Best Film award at the Belgrade International Film Festival. That same year, she made her Bollywood debut with the romantic comedy film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, opposite Bobby Deol. Then she has done many popular and commercial successful films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Mohabbatein, Devdas, Raincoat, Dhoom 2, Jodhaa Akbar, Guzaarish and many more.

Aishwarya Rai began dating with Bollywood actor Salman Khan in 1999. Their relationship was often reported in the media until the couple separated in 2002. During filming in Dhoom 2, Abhishek Bachchan fell in love with Aishwarya Rai. Their engagement was announced on 14 January 2007. The couple married on 20 April 2007 and has a daughter named Aaradhya (Born on 16 November 2011).
