Virat Kohli is an Indian international cricketer who plays as a right-handed batsman for India national team. He also plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is currently captains the India national team. He was ranked eighth in ESPN's list of world's most famous athletes in 2016. He has received many awards, including the ICC ODI Player of the Year in 2012 and the BCCI's international cricketer of the year for the 2011–12 and 2014–15 seasons.

Virat Kohli was born on 5 November 1988 in Delhi, India to Prem Kohli, who died on December 2006 and Saroj Kohli. His father worked as a criminal lawyer and his mother is a housewife. He has an elder brother named Vikash Kohli and an elder sister named Bhavna Kohli. He received his early schooling from Vishal Bharti Public School. He became interested in cricket when he was a little boy. He was trained at the academy under Rajkumar Sharma and also played matches at the Sumeet Dogra Academy at Vasundhara Enclave at the same time.

In October 2002, Virat Kohli first played for Delhi Under-15 team in the 2002–03 Polly Umrigar Trophy. He was the leading run-getter for his team in that tournament. He was made the captain of the team for the 2003–04 Polly Umrigar Trophy. He led the Indian team at the 2008 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in Malaysia. Following this, he was bought by the Indian Premier League franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore. He made his international debut on 18 August 2008 in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. He made his T20 debut for India national team on 12 June 2010 against Zimbabwe. He plays his first test for India cricket on 20 June 2011 against West Indies.
