Biography

Saravanan Sivakumar is an Indian film actor, producer and television presenter. He is popularly known by his stage name Suriya. He predominantly works in Telugu cinema. He has received several accolades, including three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and four Filmfare Awards South.

Suriya was born as Saravanan on 23 July 1975 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to Tamil film actor Sivakumar and Lakshmi. He has a younger brother named Karthi and a sister named Brindha Sivakumar. He was studid at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School and St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai. He got graduate degree (B.Com) from Loyola College, Chennai.

Suriya made his acting debut in 1997 with the movie Nerrukku Ner, directed by Vasanth, which was a commercially successful. In 2001 he acted in the superhit movie Nandha. He won his first filmfare award for best actor for this movie. Then Suriya had his first major commercial success with the thriller Kaakha Kaakha (2003). He made his Bollywood debut in Ram Gopal Varma's two-part political drama Rakta Charitra. He then acted many commercial successful movie such as Pithamagan, Perazhagan, Ghajini, Vaaranam Aayiram, Ayan, Singam, 7aum Arivu etc.
Suriya was the brand ambassador of various brands in several times. He is a good friend to popular Tamil film actor Joseph Vijay who was his classmate in college.

Suriya married actress Jyothika Saravanan on 11 September 2006 in a star-studded, traditional wedding ceremony at the Park Sheraton Hotel in Chennai. The couple is widely recognized as an extremely popular celebrity couple in South India. They have two children, a daughter named Diya (born 10 August 2007) and a son named Dev (born 7 June 2010).
